The Mosque Cares is working to promote collective grass roots efforts as one way to tackle climate change.  Every positive action we take as individuals affects change.  Our campaign centers around each one of us reducing our carbon footprint, which collectively equates to reducing devastating impacts to the earth, our planet.  Faith and logic tells us to respect the earth.  Our livelihood comes from the planet itself, so we should work with nature without causing irreparable damage to it.  Get involved and work to improve life."  Our TMC Youth In Action team kicked off the "What You Can Do" campaign in support of sustainable living.  Each person or family should perform 33 planet sustaining activities by October 30th and post what you are doing using hashtag #TMCYIA

Friday & Saturday - Religions For Earth Conference
More than 200 religious and spiritual leaders from across the world gathered at Union Theological Seminary in New York City for the Religions for the Earth conference. This was no ordinary conference: as the world's political leaders prepare to address an unprecedented moral crisis, Union offered a unique platform for the world's ethical leaders to voice the concerns and commitments of the spiritual and faith traditions. Participants are prepared to use their reach and influence to galvanize faith-based action. This action will be in support of a just climate treaty and the new measures within nations, regions and cultures that will be necessary to support the treaty and protect the most vulnerable among us in this time when profits are prioritized over the wellbeing of people, and the effects of pollution are being felt in extreme weather patterns, exacerbating social instability and a decrease in the quality of food, air and water.  Religions for the Earth was hosted in conjunction with The Interfaith Center of New York, GreenFaith, and the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions.

Sunday - The People's Climate March
Hundreds of thousands gathered as far as the eye could see and moved through Midtown Manhattan in support of calls to action to address climate change.  The People's Climate March represented a broad coalition of ages, races, religions, geographic locales, interests, and positions.

Muslim Coalition denounces ISIS for Steven Sotloff's Murder
(WASHINGTON DC - 09/03/2014) - The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), a coalition of several national and local organizations, today condemns a terrorist and anti-Islam group for a video purporting to show the gruesome beheading of American journalist Steven Sotloff.

The murder of innocent civilians is immoral, illegal, barbaric, and in direct contravention of the major tenets of Islam and Islamic law. No cause or purpose is served by this heinous act other than a clear manifestation of this group's cruel and un-Islamic nature.

"We are outraged that we once again find ourselves in the position to condemn this organization that calls itself the "Islamic State", also known by the acronym ISIS, for killing Mr. Sotloff, especially so soon after its members murdered journalist James Foley," said Oussama Jammal, USCMO secretary general.

"We recognize that all innocent life is sacred and so we also denounce this group for the rampant violence, terror, murder and mayhem it is spreading throughout the region against Muslims and non-Muslims alike. They do not represent me, American Muslims or the world's 1.5 billion Muslim. ISIS must know that such a dreadful acts will never be condoned and will be strongly deplored," Mr. Jammal emphasized.

During these difficult days, the USCMO also reminds the public to avoid spreading Islamophobia by using the actions of ISIS to characterize and demonize all Muslims, globally and here in the United States. We unequivocally denounce ISIS, its mentality, and tactics under any circumstances.

"We at the USCMO offer our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Sotloff's family. We pray they find solace and we pray that Mr. Sotloff's murderers will be brought to justice," Mr. Jammal said.

The USCMO also demands the immediate release of British hostage David Cawthorne Haines, who was seen in the current video and whom the group threatened to execute as well.

Founding members of USCMO: American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA), Muslim American Society (MAS), Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA), Muslim Ummah of North America (MUNA), The Mosque Cares (Ministry of Imam W.
