Culver City, CA – The Mohammed Schools National Alumni Association’s Los Angeles Chapter will host their Alumni Reunion on Friday, May 7th 2010, at the Radisson Hotel, at 7:00 p.m. Located at 6161 Centinela Ave, Culver City 90230. Alumnus, Darnell Karim, from Chicago, IL, will be the Banquet’s Guest Speaker. Darnell was among the first Mohammed School Graduates. He attended and graduated from the University Of Islam (U.O.I) Class of 1953.

The Reunion Banquet will present the Play “L.A., Our History” a Biographical telling of the establishment of Islam in the Greater Metropolitan Los Angeles Areas, as told by the Original Pioneers. This Community is the oldest African American Muslim Community in Los Angeles County.

“L.A., Our History” the play will chronicle the beginning years of the Nation of Islam (N.O.I.), from the 1940’s in Los Angeles, and the “Incident” of 1962 involving the Los Angeles Police Department, the passing of Elijah Muhammad, leader of the Nation of Islam (N.O.I), as well as the Leadership of Imam W.D. Mohammed (his son) and Minister Louis Farrakhan (1978). We will Celebrate over 50 years of Islam and Muslim Education Institutions in Los Angeles, California.

The Alumni Reunion Banquet will acknowledge Community and School Pioneers for their sacrifice and dedication in giving Alumni and Students the most excellent education. A Mothers Tea will also be held Saturday, from 1-3pm.

The Topics: “Qur’anic Arabic of Imam W.D. Mohammed Puts One in the Leadership Role” and “The Qur’an and the Arabic Language, The Benefits Today, as our Resource”.

Darnell Karim, noted Arabic Scholar has agreed to do an Arabic Workshop, Saturday, May 8, 2010, from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. The Topics: “Qur’anic Arabic of Imam W.D. Youth in grades 7 and up are invited to spend the day working on mixed faith service-learning projects throughout the Twin Cities, reflecting and acting on the common values of service, justice, and hospitality across all our traditions. The event runs from 9am-4pm, beginning with an opening gathering at a central location with speakers and entertainment, after which participants choose among several service projects to work on, and then come back to the main site to choose a reflection workshop for dialogue and creative expression. Transportation to and from service sites and lunches and snacks are provided.

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad's birthday is October 7th and Imam W.D.Mohammed's birthday is October 30th. Also in October 1959 we purchased the building that is currently Historic Masjid Wali Muhammad and October will be 50 years being in this building. We should celebrate our history here and recognize the living Pioneers that are still with us that were in the community when we moved into this building and we should also recognize the children of the Pioneers who are fifty years old and were raised in this community.

We are looking for some Believers who are willing to support this project so that we can put it together and make it a success. An Appreciation Dinner for Community Development, Thursday, September 17, 7pm at the Raddison Hotel at 1241 W. Mockingbird, just east of I-35. Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway will be our keynote speaker and Mayor Tom Leppert will give our welcoming remarks. Masjid WDM will be honoring Mayor Leppert and Mayor Pro Tem Caraway, along with other community leaders for their work in supporting community development.

The honorees also include Peter Stewart, for his outstanding work in founding Thanks-Giving Square, Bishop Larry McGriff for his work in bringing interfaith to southern Dallas; Bishop Mark Hernandez for his work with Ambassadors for Peace and the American Clergy Leadership Conference; and Imam Yahya Abdullah for founding African American Men Aganist Narcotics that paved the way for the revitalization of south Dallas. Their work is very valuable and deserves recognition.
