2017 Week of Upliftment

On Tuesday of this week The Mosque Cares launched the second annual IMAM W DEEN MOHAMMED WEEK OF UPLIFTMENT. For the last seven days of the year, we invite you to join us in choosing favorite lectures by Imam W Deen Mohammed from your/our personal libraries and listening to one or more each day, preferably with family, friends and loved ones with the hope of encouraging positive discussion after.

This is an initiative that we hope to continue next year and in the future. Some of us listen to Imam W. Deen Mohammed every day, but we believe this is a unifying effort for us, Followers and Students of Imam Mohammed.

The main focus of this week is to enjoy the benefits of a lecture a day whether at home, the office or in the car. This is a perfect opportunity to brighten some of the doldrums that may come along this time of year. As believers we know that Allah's mercy is greatest on our collective efforts. Don't forget to check in on neighbors and Believers who may be less fortunate or could use your help. May Allah bless us all with a happy and progressive New Year. Ameen

Denouncing Myanmar's Massacre and "Textbook Ethnic Cleansing" of the Rohingya

The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), the largest coalition of leading national and local Muslim organizations in America, strongly condemns the Myanmar government's ongoing systematic and categorical persecution and ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya civilian population, in flagrant neglect of the longstanding, urgent warnings by top UN officials against these unethical practices that are illegal under international law.

We are shocked and dismayed at State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi's tacit approval of the recent mass deployment of the state army to indiscriminately brutalize the already abjectly dispossessed and shamefully despoiled Rohingya. We further denounce her perfidious and feeble justification of it-in the face of the near-universal international condemnation of her-in the tired name of terrorism.

Rather, Myanmar's political and military authorities have clearly descended to the disgraceful actions of terrorizing the Rohingya into leaving the lands and homes of their ancient birthright and legacy because of the depraved incitements of a base religious bigotry and political expedience, in what the UN has branded as a "textbook example of ethnic cleansing."

The Myanmar army's well-documented use of heavy artillery against unarmed innocents, along with rocket launchers and helicopter gunships, and its merciless program of burning out villagers, mass slaughter, rape, torture, and extrajudicial killings are utterly unconscionable acts of inhumanity. This unjustifiable systematized exercise of both a government's inherently coercive force and the use of its deadliest war machines against its own inhabitants constitutes sufficient cause to delegitimize the political leadership of any party or individual, even to revoke the claimed rights of nationhood of any complicit people.

That is the lesson of Nuremburg, and, indeed, it is by the standards of genocide that independent observers have now begun to measure Myanmar's political and military authorities' heartless assault on the havenless Rohingya, whom Myanmar has deliberately kept in a stateless status with no civil or human rights.

The sheer savagery of the Myanmar security forces against the Rohingya, especially in northern Arakan, since August 11-whether the Rohingya were cowering in their homes, fleeing upon the open road, hiding in the mountains, braving its jungles, or skirting its rivers and dales-leaves few other names than 'genocide' by which this mass atrocity may be called. Since August 25, an astounding 313,000 Rohingya have crossed the River Naf into Bangladesh in "urgent need of life-saving assistance," according to the International Organization for Migration.

The Myanmar government cannot contest these egregious facts by what the UN calls a "complete denial of reality" but only by allowing independent humanitarian agencies, including Muslim agencies, to minister to the cordoned-off Rohingya's grave traumas-mental, physical, and social-and by permitting independent media to tell their stories and human rights advocates to assess their allegations and conditions.

USCMO urges our United States government, the UN Security Council, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take concrete steps in holding the government of Myanmar responsible and accountable, to immediately demand the protection and enfranchisement of the Rohingya people, and to open safe passage for countries and relief organizations to provide the life-saving humanitarian assistance that the Rohingya now so desperately need.

The weekend was a celebratory yet productive, interactive, high-energy occasion. Although we are without the physical presence of our dear beloved leader, mentor, teacher and friend, Imam W. Deen Mohammed; his leadership is very much in our spirit, vision, perspective and hearts.  The numerous community events and workshop sessions focused on leveraging Imam W. Deen Mohammed’s 40+ years of leadership, his Quran Tafsir and our community’s extensive knowledge and experience.

Friday, we attended both Eid prayer and Jumuah, Alhumdullilah.  Children (<11) and Youth (12+) attended a special celebration mid-day that included gifts and lunch.  The evening ended with an outstanding Eid Culture Night Event!

Throughout the weekend registrants were able to attend over twenty interactive, informative workshops, several focused community meetings, traditional program events including the Annual Awards Banquet, Business Breakfast, Fashion Show and State of the Ummah Public Address and newer events like Believers In Uniform, Free Health Screening, College Info Booth and Community Breakfast.  New Africa Marketplace featured exhibitors from across the country showcasing their brands, products and services, all under one roof.

The Annual Muslim Convention Concept, designed by Imam W. Deen Mohammed is a catalyst for growth and an opportunity enabling us to gather, unite and share different perspectives, knowledge and skills. This event underscores Imam W. Deen Mohammed’s platform and fuels our collective mission of advancing and building our community life.  Insha Allah we will succeed Together.  Imam Mohammed laid a firm foundation for us and we appreciate your renewed Commitment to support his Mission and Ministry for social and economic justice for all people.

We thank you again for your support of this worthy cause, and we pray The Merciful Allah continues to bless and guide our community always.

"What I mean by New World, is the unfolding or revealing of something that was with this country when the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution. That desire for a world wherein all the good human aspirations would be respected by the nation and by the people of that nation, and that no one would be denied the free expression of his noble human aspirations and he would be able to pursue those aspirations.  That kind of environment doesn't come until moral freedom comes. That is, when people are able to express freely what they feel in their moral sentiments." Imam W. Deen Mohammed

This Ramadan!

As Salaam Alaikum, Ramadan Mubarak!

We are reaching out for assistance this year as we launch a well round project Insha Allah.  We have combined several TMC programs and targeted them to address growing concerns with many Pioneers/Seniors.

  • The TMC #YouCanGrow campaign - from bucket gardens to urban farming this program encourages and educates the community on growing food.  We also share produce with local and Muslim communities throughout the growing season.
  • Reverse Mentor Program - youth work with Pioneers/Seniors to coach them on staying in touch with the Muslim community using computers, smart phones, tablets, social media, email, etc.
  • Interfaith Against Hunger - faith based people work together to prepare meals for Pioneers/Seniors and those in need
  • TMC Sick Committee - facilitate community contact for Muslims who are ill, hospitalized, confined to a nursing home, rehabilitating or recuperating at home or in a medical facility. It is our goal to reach out with concern, care and compassion.

We appreciate your consideration in donating to our good works.

As part of our mission, The Mosque Cares is committed to helping establish a balanced community life, witnessing the eternal wisdom of the words of G-d and the life exemplified by Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).  Part of what balances our life is our established history and traditions.  Based on the precedent set by The Honorable Elijah Mohammed, Imam W. Deen Mohammed charted the Saviors Day course for us, by sharing with us the richness, significance and purpose of our Saviors Day Celebration.  On one occasion, he stated: “We observe Saviors Day to stay in touch with The Best of our LIFE. The Best of our History…For our History is more important that what happens any single day…We want to recall this history! We want to yearly have this occasion to recall our Best Life!”   In addition, he provided a clear structure on what Saviors Day should be about! “Saviors Day should be a day to focus on our history, but not for the sake of just recalling history, but also to benefit from the best of our past history, as we make history, that is what it should be about!”  All of what Imam Mohammed provided to us as inspiration will be part of our Saviors Day 2017.

An Open Letter to President Barack Obama

See response to our open Letter To President Obama from the Ministry of Imam W Deen Mohammed - The Mosque Cares

The Honorable Barack Obama
The White House
Washington, DC 20500

Dear President Obama:

As you move to the next chapter of your life, The Mosque Cares - Ministry of Imam W Deen Mohammed sends special thanks and appreciation for your service to the United States and the Global Community. Your Presidency is the greatest thing to happen to us, as a Nation.  In 2008, my father, Imam W Deen Mohammed stated “I strongly believe that he (Senator Barack Obama) will become the President.  His success has already sent signals to our spirits, our sentiments, and that will make for a new spirit in Black America.” Throughout the past eight years, your continuous leadership, work and dedication for the common good is evident in your numerous accomplishments which include:

- After 100 years of talk and failed efforts, health care reform is a reality.
- The U.S. has done more to combat climate change than ever before for example, carbon emissions have decreased 9 percent.
American leadership has been refocused and reaffirmed in the world, recognizing our strength derives from our values and the depth and breadth of our global partnerships.
- The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act spurred economic growth amid the greatest recession since the Great Depression.
Race to the Top competitive grants encourage and reward states for education reform.
- There has been increased focus of support for our Veterans.
National Service expanded and is encouraged via the Serve America Act.
- The Claims Resolution Act benefits African American farmers discriminated against by the U.S. Department of Agriculture when applying for loans and assistants to start and maintain farms.

We end this letter quoting you, “We the People, recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which only asks what's in it for me, a freedom without a commitment to others, a freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our founding ideals, and those who died in their defense.”

We pray G’d continues to bless our country and all of our good works.

Imam Warithudeen Mohammed II

Honoring Dr Martin Luther King Jr

"Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others" Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Imam W. Deen Mohammed said "G-d created people to be a community and it is only in community where you get your full freedom to live out your capacity or your ability as a human being.”

Americans from all walks of life plan to come together for a day of service carrying on traditions of our pioneers and paying it forward.  Today and everyday, commit to helping, working, volunteering, donating toward the betterment of mankind. #MLKDAY
