Imam W. Deen Mohammed --- Maya Angelou

"I love these words of Maya Angelou. I saw them in the movie of Ma'Dear's Family Reunion. She says, "The sun has come. The myth has gone. We see in the distance our long way home." Beautiful, so rich when you connect , what she is saying with us, the African American community.

She says "the sun has come"; G-d opened her mind and gave her knowledge and insight. "The myth has gone"; the false pictures that once were realities in our minds are gone. She got the life out of the dead, the myth.

The myth gives you something dead, but it holds life. She was blessed to get into the myth and see the real truth, the real life, so that myth as a dead thing disappeared.

She was able to then see where our people should be taking ourselves, where we should be taking our community life. So she concluded with "a long way home."

"The sun has come. The myth has gone. We see in the distance our long way home." It can be a long way, or it can be a short way, too, if we stop following the worst of our leaders and start following the best of our leaders - it could be a short distance." --  Imam W. Deen Mohammed

TO YOUR HEALTH

Summer is around the corner and the clothes that one wore last year may be end up tighter than one remembers unless something is done.  Here are some tips:

Count the calories. Understand and stay within your daily calorie budget.

Watch your appetite. Don’t let the “snacking” get control of you.

Watch the fatty foods. High fat diets favor overfeeding.

Enjoy without guilt. If you choose to somewhat over eat, don’t feel guilty about it....  Just go do your workout!

Muslim coalition condemns Boko Haram and girls' kidnapping
(WASHINGTON DC 05/07/2014) -- The US Council of Muslim Organizations, a coalition of several leading national and local Muslim organizations, strongly denounces Boko Haram and its kidnapping of at least 200 girls in Nigeria. We call for the girls' immediate release and safe return to their families.
Boko Haram does not represent Islam and their actions completely violate Islamic teachings and principles. The USCMO joins hands with others who have openly condemned these actions. Slavery, oppression and injustice are prohibited in Islam and Boko Haram threats to sell these girls into slavery are reprehensible.
"The actions of Boko Haram show its members to be very ignorant of Islam and its teachings," said Oussama Jammal, USCMO secretary-general. "No one in their right mind would condone these actions, especially Muslims, as they violate everything we hold sacred."
USCMO calls for the immediate and safe return of these girls to their families and commends President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry for intervening for these girls' well being.
