Building A New Chicago ~ One Summer Chicago Project

ATTENTION STUDENTS AND PARENTS!  The Ministry of Imam W. Deen Mohammed [The Mosque Cares] is working with the interfaith community and the City of Chicago in support of the One Summer Chicago 2014 Program - View Meeting Photos


Program Goal: 22,000 youth hired to work in paid positions 
Application period: April 4 – May 16, 2014 
One common application: www.onesummerchicago.org 
• Summer employment period: June 30 – August 8, 2014 

Requirements: 
– Most programs restricted to 16-24 year olds. CHA, ASM, Libraries offer 13-15 year old programs 
– Parental consent required for youth under the age of 18 
– Youth under the age of 16 must have a work permit 
– Youth must be residents of the City of Chicago (except Cook County Forest Preserve) 

• Pay, pay frequency and hours vary by program: 
– Minimum wage is the standard for DFSS funded programs

We are here to help with completion of the online application and assembly of required documents (e.g., parental consent, work permit, etc.).  If you need assistance, email: wdmministry@sbcglobal.net  //  We also plan to announce our summer community project late-April.

2014 Goals
  1. To Mobilize and resource religious communities, representatives and people of faith and goodwill in fostering multi-religious cooperation and social cohesion.
  2. Respond to and reduce religiously-motivated conflicts in the U.S.
  3. Advocate for the responsibility of the USA as a citizen of the global community.
  4. Enhance the capacity of RFPUSA to accomplish the first three goals through organizational capacity building.
*TMC is a member organization and W. Deen Mohammed II is co-president for RFPUSA

Major Muslim Groups Launch New Council

Major Muslim Groups Launch New Council at D.C. News Conference
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/12/14) - Ten* major national American Muslim organizations held a news conference today at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to announce the formation of the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), an umbrella group that will serve as a representative voice for Muslims as that faith community seeks to enhance its positive impact on society.

The new national council's first priority will be to build on Muslim citizenship rights by conducting a census of American Muslims to create a database that will be used to enhance civic and political participation in upcoming elections.

U.S. Muslim Groups to Launch New Council with Political Census

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/10/14) – On Wednesday, March 12, eight* major national American Muslim organizations will hold a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to announce the formation of the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), an umbrella group that will serve as a representative voice for Muslims as that faith community seeks to enhance its positive impact on society.
